Leona Christina (MacNaughton) MacLean

1929-2020

It is with great sadness that we announce that Leona C. MacLean of Black River Bridge has gone to be with her Lord & Saviour on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Born in Napan Bay, she was the eldest child of Sinclair and Mina (Lockerbie) MacNaughton.

She is survived by husband of 67 years, Harrison MacLean; son, Garth (Joy) MacLean; daughters:  Carla (Colen) Smith and Ann Dufour; sister, Elizabeth (William) Godfrey; brother, Fred (Joan) MacNaughton; sisters-in-law:  Harriet MacNaughton and Mabel Lahey; grandchildren:  Karen (Jason) Gilmore, Ryan (Melissa) Smith, Kyle Dufour, Kevin Dufour, Heather (Scott) Johnson, and Tim (Kristi) LeBlanc; and great-grandchildren:  Austin, Maddox and Silas.

She was predeceased by brothers:  Alvin and infant Samuel Emmett MacNaughton; sons-in-law:  Paul Dufour and Hugh Godfrey.

Leona moved to Moncton to start her long career at Eaton’s. She and Harry raised their family there and retired to Black River Bridge in 1991. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.  Leona was a member of St Stephen’s United Church, U.C.W. and Ministry & Personnel Committee. She also belonged to the Highland Society and Black River Bridge Seniors.

We would like to thank the staff of Spencer’s Nursing Home and Janine for all the love, care and support provided to her.

A public visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King Street, Miramichi on Friday, September 25th from 2-4 PM only and Saturday, September 26th from 11 AM-1 PM only.  A private funeral service was held on Saturday, September 26th at 3 PM from St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge, NB, conducted by The Rev. David Allan and The Rev. Ross Wiseman.  Music for the service was provided by:  David Mann, Lloyd Mills, and Al Fraser.  The hymns were:  "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", and "Amazing Grace".  The Eulogy was presented by Karen Gilmore, and the scriptures were read by Garth MacLean.  A poem was read by Carla Smith.  Pallbearers were:  Kevin Dufour, Kyle Dufour, Jason Gilmore, Scott Johnson, Austin Lawlor, and Ryan Smith.  Honorary Pallbearers were:  The St. Stephen's United Church Women.  Interment was in the Black River Community Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the St. Stephen’s United Church, Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
