In Loving Memory of Leonard D. MacDonald

1934 – 2025

 

Leonard Douglas MacDonald, the husband of the late Laura Minnie (Belding) MacDonald of Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on September 20, 2025, at the age of 91.

 

Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, on April 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Albert and Mina (MacDonald) MacDonald.  He served as a member of the Black Watch 1st Battalion “C” Company from 1954 – 1957.  He then worked for North Shore construction for over 30 years.

 

Leonard is survived by his two daughters: Valerie MacDonald of Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, and Gail MacDonald (Yves) of Bay Du Vin, New Brunswick; three sons: Wade MacDonald (Ruth) of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Gary MacDonald of Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, and Rodney MacDonald of Stouffville, Ontario; two sisters: Leila Ripley and Louise Daws of Ontario; three grandchildren: Connie, Elaina, and Albert; nine great-grandchildren: Taylor, Trevor, Sean, Kaylee, Jason, Catherine, Jorja, Matthew, and Andrew; five great-great-grandchildren: Lyla, Hazel, Wyatt, Arabella, and Sedona; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Laura MacDonald; three sisters: Eveline Ross, Jessie Adams-Russell, and Marjorie Grant; four brothers: Atcheson, Emerson, Lloyd, and Thomas MacDonald; and beloved grandson, Tyler MacDonald.

 

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Funeral service was held at St. Stephen’s United Church, 7970 Route 117, Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend Ivan Gregan as officiant.  Music for the service was provided by Barb Somers and The Loggieville/Black River Joint Choir and the hymns were "How Great Thou Art", "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand".  The honorary pallbearers were Emile Duplessie, Wayne MacDonald and Stephen MacDonald.  Pallbearers were Albert MacDonald, Trevor MacDonald, Jason Robichaud, Sean Robichaud, Chris Harris and Yves Manuel.  Interment was in Black River Community Cemetery.

 

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
