Lillian Helen Kane
It is with great sadness yet admiration for a life well lived that the family announces the peaceful passing of our mother, our grandmother, great grandma, our mother-in-law, Lillian Kane in her 93rd year. Lillian was the daughter of Helen Nowlan and Edward Rigley and sister of Elroy and William Rigley.
Lillian married Vincent Traer in 1950 and they raised five children in Chatham, N.B. and Pembroke, Ontario, where Lillian had many great years as an assistant librarian at Fellowes High School. She and Vince moved back to Chatham and Lillian worked at the library at James M. Hill High School. Vince died suddenly in 1980, a tragedy that Lillian needed her strong faith in God to help her through. Lillian was the mother of Bobby (deceased 2015), Gary (deceased 2018), Rick (Francine) Traer, Joy (Chris) Dooley, and Janet (Dale) Traer/Dickson. She was also the wife of second husband Jim Kane (deceased 2008)
“Diamond Lil” gave us all an example of how to take on life’s challenges with the help of family love and a strong faith. A long-time member of the CWL and Eucharistic minister for many years at St Michael’s, Lillian will be deeply missed by Gary’s wife Anna Traer, her grandchildren Matthew ( Casey) Traer, Stephanie ( Ryan) Amaral, Mike ( Julia) Traer, Nicole ( Bryan) Mayes, Daniel Dooley, Jordan Dickson (Jess), Zacharie ( Sara) Traer and Catherine ( Tommy) Traer. Late in her life Nan was blessed with great- grandchildren Aiden and Emma Amaral, Zoe Traer and Isaiah Scrubb.
Lillian’s last years were spent in Burlington, Ontario as she moved to be closer to her family. She lived in Lakeshore Place retirement home before moving into Cama Woodlands Long Term Care, where she received loving attention from so many dedicated staff and PSW’s.
Lillian dealt with the loss of two husbands, two sons, 2 bouts with cancer and finally dementia but she never lost her caring nature, her compassion, her love of the church, her resilience and her tremendous sense of humour. Lillian’s faith guided a life that in turn guided others. Her life is captured in the writing of 2: Timothy 4-7. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.”
Rest In Peace Nan.
