1960 – 2025 

Louise Evelyn Dickens of St. Margaret’s, New Brunswick, passed away unexpectedly at the St. John Regional Hospital, St. John, New Brunswick, on February 2, 2025, at the age of 64.

Born in Chatham, NB, on December 12, 1960, Louise Evelyn Dickens was the daughter of the late James and Garnella (Trevors) Dickens.

Louise will be remembered as a loving partner, mother, grandmother, sister, very loving aunt, and friend.  For the past several years, she was employed with the Federal Government of Canada at the Public Service Pay Center and worked as a Compensation Advisor.  She also had extensive experience working at MLHL Marketing.  She was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church.

Louise is survived by her loving and long-time partner, Jerry Smith; her daughter, Tonia Gregan (Dan Savoie) of Hardwicke, NB, her son, Jerry Lee Poirier (Erika LeBlanc) of Moncton, NB; grandchildren:  Chloe, Abigail, and James Gregan, and Jacob and Seth Poirier; three sisters:  Maryann Chiasson (Robert) of St. Margaret’s, Georgina Dickens (Mike Moore) of Sussex, NB, and Beatrice Stewart of Miramichi, NB; many nieces and nephews who she loved very much; brother-in-law, Ronald Despres; as well as the father of her children, Gerald Poirier.  She is also survived by her beloved dogs:  Willow and Star.  Besides her parents, Louise is predeceased by sisters, Shirley Dickens, and Jessie Despres; and brothers-in-law, Wayne Stewart, and Bob MacLean. She is also predeceased by her much-loved dogs:  Moose, Kita, Kit, Major, Kassy, and Sheba. 

By request of the family, there was no visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, 9371 NB-134, St. Margaret’s, NB, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11 AM, with The Reverend Father John Fraser as Celebrant.  Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Kim Shaddick.  The processional hymn was "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", followed by "The Lord is My Shepard", "Amazing Grace, "My Chains are Gone", "Hallelujah", and "Another Angel Up in Heaven".  The recessional song was "You Are My Sunshine".  The eulogy was given by Tonia Gregan.  The First Scripture Reading was read by Chole Gregan.  The Second Scripture Reading was read by James MacLean.  Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Savanna Sauntry.  The Honorary Pallbearers were:  Wesley MacLean, James MacLean, Chris Walsh, Steven Sauntry, Nella Sauntry, Juliette Cabana, and Paul Depres.  Interment will take place at a later date in St. Margaret’s Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will also be held at a later date.  

As expressions of sympathy, donations in Louise’s memory to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Miramichi SPCA, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
