In Loving Memory of M. Lodia Watling

1931 – 2023

Mary Lodia Watling (Martin), wife of the late Lloyd Watling of Miramichi, and formerly of Napan, NB, passed away at Shannex-Losier Hall on September 13, 2023, at the age of 91.

Born in Baie-Saint-Anne, NB, on October 29, 1931.  She was the daughter of the late Alexander and the late Margaret (Chaisson) Martin.  Lodia was a Homemaker and former employee of the Department of National Defense at the former CFB Chatham.  She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, U.C.W (Napan Unit), Miramichi Cancer Survivors Group, Napan W.I and Golden Age Club of Baie-Saint-Anne.

Lodia is survived by her daughter, Wanda Watling of Saskatoon, SK; and her three sons:  Randy Watling (Joanne) of Cole Harbour, NS, Jamie Watling (Heidi) of Hampton, NB, and Shawn Watling (Robyn) of Woodland, California, USA.  She is also survived by her six grandchildren:  Jeremy, Riley, Erin, Janelle, Darby, Jack; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and many cherished family pets.

Lodia was the last surviving member of her Martin family.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her six sisters:  Alma McIntyre, Catherine Martin, Elizabeth Martin, Adelia Lirette, Exelda McIntyre, and Albertine Martin; and five brothers:  Joseph, Edward, Augustine, Prudent, and Amand.

Visitation occurred at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 2-4 PM, and 7-9 PM. Funeral service took place at St. Andrew’s United Church, 188 Wellington St., Miramichi, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 11 AM with The Reverend Eunkyu Ji as Officiant. The greeters were Jack Watling and Janelle Watling.  Music for the service was provided by Organist, Lois McKinnon, and the St. Andrew's United Church Choir.  The musical prelude included "Softly and Tenderly". The following hymns were: "In the Bulb There Is a Flower", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Amazing Grace".  The recessional song was "The Rose".  The memory candle was lit by Darby Watling and Trey Lewis. The  Eulogy and Family Memories were presented by Helen Jones.  Special poems were read by Joan Savoy, and Agnes McLenaghan.  The Active Pallbearers were:  Jack Watling, Riley Watling, Henry Wilson, Brian Savoy, Dale McIntyre, and Albert McIntyre.  Interment followed in the Black River Community Cemetery.

Lodia was a lover of animals. To pay tribute to this, as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
