In Loving Memory of Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Gregan
October 10, 1960 - March 28, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Gregan, of Mount Herbert, Prince Edward Island, announce her sudden and tragic passing.
Born October 10, 1960, in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, Betty was the daughter of the late Donald and Ruby (Hamilton) Gregan.
Betty dedicated her life to the care and well-being of animals, a passion that defined both her career and her personal life. She was educated in Ontario as an Animal Health Technician and was employed with the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) on Prince Edward Island for over 30 years. Through her work and beyond, she touched countless lives with her knowledge, compassion, and commitment to animal care.
A devoted animal lover, Betty held a special place in her heart for her beloved golden retriever, “Ben,” who predeceased her, as well as for her many horses. She was well known throughout the Maritime provinces for her work conducting blood testing for harness racing horses, travelling extensively and forming lasting friendships along the way. She was a valued member of the Prince Edward Island harness racing community.
Her sudden passing has left her family and friends heartbroken and struggling to process such an unexpected loss.
Betty is survived by her sister, Wanda Gregan of Miramichi; her brothers, Lynn Gregan (Loisanne) of Hardwicke, New Brunswick, Bruce Gregan of Grand Prairie, Alberta (Joanne of River Charlo, New Brunswick), and Joey Gregan (Lyne) of Dalhousie, New Brunswick; as well as many cherished nieces, and nephews: Matthew (Jenna), twins Jonathan and Jessie, Vanessa (Pascal), Emilie (Noah), twins Christopher and Luna, Abygail, Olivier and Finnley; and cherished great nieces, and great-nephews: Jase, Lynken, Rory, and Hannah, and baby, Nakoa. Betty is also survived by her beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her nephew, Christopher Gregan; her companion dog, Ben; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In her 65th year, a limb has broken from our family tree. As Betty has taken that victory lap around the track, her spirit, kindness, and love for animals will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 13, 2026, at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, 58 Kensington Road, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life for Betty will also be held on the Miramichi at a later date. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Myers United Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
