Mary “Alice” MacPhee
1927-2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Mary “Alice” MacPhee, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on January 14, 2022, at the age of 94. She was the beloved wife of the late John Malcolm MacPhee.
Born in Valleyfield, Prince Edward Island on November 21, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander and Marjorie (Martin) MacPherson.
Alice is survived by five daughters: Marjorie MacPhee of Miramichi, Jean Dunlop (Rob) of Ottawa, Ann Richards (Ed) of Ottawa, Lynn MacPhee of Miramichi, Brenda McInnis (Joseph) of Ottawa; three sons: Callum MacPhee (Shelley) of Dalhousie, NB, Douglas MacPhee (Rosemary) of Surrey, BC, and Jack (Hsiao-Wei) of Salt Spring Island, BC. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Tanya and Joel, Stacey and Alison, Rodney, Jeff and James, Malcolm, Matthew and Katie and Amanda, Scott and Jessica. She was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Jean MacPhee, and Margaret MacPhee, both of PEI, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Alice is predeceased by two brothers: Myles and Kenneth; one sister, Catherine; and granddaughter, Melissa.
Alice enjoyed many years travelling as a military wife making and maintaining many friendships along the way. Mom loved her travels across Canada and Europe visiting her children/grandchildren and especially enjoyed her winters in Florida.
She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the UCW and was involved in the Legion Auxiliary, and Miramichi Bridge Club. She also enjoyed curling, golf and bowling. Always eager for get together with family and friends, Alice was always up for a game of cards, board games and/or a chat…always with lots of food.
A public visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 3-6 PM. A public funeral service was held at St. Andrew's United Church, 188 Wellington St., Miramichi on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 2 PM with The Reverend Charlene Maguire MacKnight as Officiant. Music for the service was provided by Organist, Lois McKinnon, and the St. Andrew's United Church Choir. The processional hymn was "Come In, Come In and Sit Down". Additional hymns included "Just as I Am", "An Angel to Watch Over Me", "The Old Rugged Cross", with the recessional hymn being "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace". Lighting of the Memory Candle was by great-grandchildren: Reese Godfrey, Alexis Vautour, and Eli MacDermaid. Remembrances were offered by daughter, Lynn MacPhee. A special poem was read by grandson, Joel MacDermaid. Scripture readings were read by granddaughters: Jessica McInnis, and Tanya MacDermaid. Honourary Pallbearers included all the grandchildren and their spouses. The St. Andrew's UCW and the Sunday Lunch Group sat together as special group and formed an honor guard. Interment will occur in August 2022, in Valleyfield Cemetery, PEI.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, Valleyfield Cemetery, NB Extra Mural, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
