Michael J. Leggatt Obituary

Michael J. Leggatt

     1955 – 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Leggatt of Miramichi on October 31, 2022, at the age of 67.

Born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, on May 17th, 1955, Michael was the eldest son of Rose Leggatt and the late Edward (Brud) Leggatt.

He leaves behind the love of his life, France (Tremblay) Leggatt; and the apple of his eye, his daughter, Sophie Marie Leggatt (Matt); mother, Rose Leggatt; as well as six brothers and sisters: Mary (Paul), Tracey (Mike), Richard (Melissa), Donna (Dan dec.), Edward (Ann) and Alexis (Dimitri); his sisters and brother-in-law: Marie (Blaine), Louise, and Paul (Marie Lyne), many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends whom he loved dearly.

Michael spent his early working life in the family business first as the face of Pure Springs Beverages and then with Leggatt’s Wholesale, a business he eventually owned and operated for many years. Michael was most comfortable on the water or in the woods which led him to a job as a fishing guide with Natural Resources. Later he travelled to the west coast where he worked on the pipeline and again got to enjoy working in the great outdoors as well as the camaraderie of his fellow workers.

Special thanks and deep gratitude for the excellent care given by Dr. Maged Mansour Salem and the Oncology Team in Moncton, Dr. Gerard Losier for his medical care and friendship, Dr. Slorach, the Extra Mural team as well as the Nurses and Support Staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.

At the request of the family, there was no visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial occurred at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11 AM with The Reverend Father Dan Bastarache as Celebrant.  Music for the service was provided by Organist, David Bunnell, and Vocalist, Danny Joyce. The songs were:  "Be Not Afraid" as the processional, "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Surely the Presence", "In My Daughter's Eyes", "Ordinary Holiness", and "Songs of the Angels", with the recessional being "How Great Thou Art".  Words of Remembrance were spoken by Mary Langille.  The First Scripture Reading was read by Joanne Kozinski, and the Second Scripture reading was read by Richard Leggatt.  Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Paul Tremblay.  The Honorary Pallbearers were:  Blaine Foley, Joe Brennan, Heather Maynes, Danny Boyle, Ozzy Barry, Matt Darrach, Noonan Gorman, Eddie Leggatt, Danny Carroll, Brendan Clancy, Pat Boyle, Michael Keating, John Walsh, Paul Tremblay, and Gerard Losier.  The interment was in St. Michael’s Cemetery. A reception followed in the church basement.
