In Loving Memory of Norman O’Neill
1939 – 2024
The family of Norman Louis O’Neill sadly announces his passing at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on July 16, 2024, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Norman’s legacy as a trucker lives on in his namesake company, Norman O’Neill Trucking Ltd. He spent his entire life building his business and supporting his children and grandchildren through their schooling, careers and sports. He will be remembered for his love of family and his dedication to his work. His quiet, teasing nature, and easy grin will be missed by all who loved him.
Born in Escuminac Hardwoods, NB, he was the son of the late Raymond and Adelia (Poirier) O’Neill. Norman was predeceased by his wife, Claudette (Daigle); as well as brothers: Melvin, Donald, and Johnny. He was the proud father of Roxanne O’Neill-Gionet (Richard) and Glenda O’Neill-Wood (Shawn), both of Miramichi; as well as Darren O’Neill (Tammy) and Darlene Barry (Mark), both of Napan. Pappie will be greatly missed by his ten grandchildren: Hailee and Devon Gionet; Kailla, Hillary and Katie Wood; Dylan Dickson, Brooke O’Neill and Brayden Babineau; Lydia and Aubrey Barry. He will also be missed by his four sisters: Hazel McEwan of Greenwood, NS, Iona Jimmo of Escuminac, Dorothy Taylor of Napan, and Gail Gingras of Bay du Vin; in addition to his brother, Raymond O’Neill (Pierrette) of Escuminac.
Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, Miramichi, on Friday July 26, 2024, from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 11 A.M., with The Reverend Father Antonio Reyes as Celebrant. Music for the service was provided by David Bonnell and George Allan. The processional hymn was "Here I am Lord". Following hymns included: "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Amazing Grace", "Taste and See", as well as "Songs of the Angels". The recessional hymn was "Green, Green Grass of Home". The Eulogy was by Devon Gionet. The First Reading was by Kailla Wood. The Second Reading was by Hillary Wood. Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by: Hailee Gionet, Dylan Dickson, Brooke O'Neill, and Katie Wood. The Pallbearers were: Lydia & Aubrey Barry, Dylan Dickson, Hailee & Devon Gionet, Kailla, Hillary & Katie Wood, Brooke O'Neill & Brayden Babineau. The Honorary Pallbearers were: Boyd O'Neill, Kevin Daigle, Jamie Cook, Richard Hilchey, John Glynn, and Wendell Doak. Interment followed in St. Michael's Cemetery. A reception for all occurred in the Church Parish Hall.
The family would like to thank Extra-Mural for their excellent care and support, as well as the staff of Percy’s Place for their respite care.
