Raymond J. (IGGY) Savoy
1941 – 2020
Raymond Joseph (IGGY) Savoy, husband of Theresa (Babineau) Savoy of Miramichi passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on October 28, 2020 at the age of 78.
Born in Chatham, on December 15, 1941, he was the son of the late Marie (Savoy) Irvine. He was a Truck Driver and worked in the moving industry most of his life, driving for Allied, North American and United Van Lines and retired from Hoyts Moving and Storage in 2008.
He enjoyed travel, Bingo, music jams and a good cup of tea at Tim Horton’s with the gang. He was an avid sports fan rooting for the Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburg Penguins. He also followed the Chatham Ironmen faithfully.
He took pride in his sobriety and was a solid member of AA for over 37 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Rae Anne MacDonald-Bradley (Richard); son, James (Jimmy) MacDonald both of St. Catharines, ON; their mother Anne (Trevors) MacDonald (Will) of Niagara Falls, ON; son, Michael Murdock (Jodi) of Miramichi; four grandchildren: Kyle, Hailey, Ryan and Zachary; two great-grandchildren: Sophia and Chase; three sisters: Donna Piper of Fort Erie, ON, Jeanne Irvine (Mary Anne Matchett) and Stephanie Williston (Bruce) both of Miramichi; many nieces and nephews and a group of very supportive in-laws. Besides his mother, he is predeceased by infant son, Michael and brother-in-law, Paul Piper.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 11 am with Father Dan Bastarache as Celebrant. Music for the service was provided by Mike Davis and the hymns were: “Here I Am Lord”, “Be Not Afraid”, “You Raise Me Up”, “Hallelujah”, “Song Of The Angels” and “On Eagle Wings”. The scripture readings were read by Greg Morris and Evangeline Babineau and the Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Evangeline Babineau. The eulogy was presented by Frank Trevors and a message from Raymond’s daughter Rae Anne was read by Rick Nagle.
Honourary pallbearers were: Jimmy Conroy, Ludger Cormier, Joe Gauvin, Brian King, Greg Morris and Ryan Murdock. Interment will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the New Brunswick Extra Mural Program or the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
