Roland A. Sturgeon
1936 – 2019
Roland Alfred Sturgeon, husband of Christina (Gilliss) Sturgeon of Napan, NB passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday morning, November 27, 2019 at the age of 83.
Born in Blackville, NB, on February 14, 1936, he was the son of the late Horace and Paulina (Bell) Sturgeon. He was a retired employee of Lounsbury Co. Ltd. after a 40 year career. He was a true outdoors man who loved fishing, hunting, biking and gardening. He enjoyed bowling, playing hockey and baseball. He was a die-hard Boston Bruin fan. He attended The Point Church (Newcastle) when he was able.
He is survived by his wife Christina (Gilliss) Sturgeon; one daughter, Wendy Richard (Henri) of Riverview; one son, Mark Sturgeon (Paula) of South Esk; five grandchildren: Jordan, Thomas, Jennah, Abigail and Jasmin and one great grandchild, Kierah; one brother Carvell Sturgeon (Mary Joan) of Miramichi. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother Darryl Sturgeon.
Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Thursday, from 6-9 pm. Funeral service was held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 11 am with Rev. Kevin Matthews officiating. Music for the service was provided by Daniel Gillis and Cathy Parks and the special music was “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone”, “One Day At A Time” and “Hallelujah”.
Pallbearers were Bradley Gilliss, David Gilliss, Guy Taylor and Laurie Patterson. Interment will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery later in the spring.
