In Loving Memory of Wayne “Blackie” MacDonald
1948 – 2026
Wayne “Blackie” Ralph MacDonald of Miramichi, New Brunswick, passed away at Mount St. Joseph on May 27, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born in Chatham, New Brunswick on July 16, 1948, he was the son of the late Ralph and Katherine (Shields) MacDonald. Wayne “Blackie” worked as a linesman with NB Power for many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Legion Branch #3, Salmon Federation, A.A., and St. Michael’s Basilica.
In his spare-time he was true sportsman and loved the outdoors, the Nor-West Miramichi River was his go to, either for fishing salmon, picking fiddleheads or just canoeing the river and stopping to chat with anyone who was along the route. He took great pride in watching his children and later grandchildren participate in sporting events and dedicated most of his winters ensuring his outdoor rink was in top shape for the community to enjoy. In his earlier years he was skilled hockey player, coach, umpire and a relentless volunteer who tried to ensure everyone had the ability to participate and was properly equipped. Blackie was also a former Miramichi City Councillor.
Blackie is survived by his daughter, Krista Dickson (Billy) of Miramichi; sons, Jody MacDonald (Lori O’Neill) of Miramichi, and Scott MacDonald (Erin) of Niagara Falls, Ontario; grandchildren: Rebecca Arbeau (Jarrett), Kaitlyn MacDonald, Faith Dickson, Brooklyn MacDonald, Abby MacDonald, Lyvia MacDonald, and Nate Dickson; great-granddaughter, Gracie-Dawn Arbeau; two sisters, Sharon MacLean of Scarborough, Ontario, and Donna Savoy (Carl) of Miramichi; brother, Ronnie MacDonald (Terry) of Napan; and sister-in-law, Lola MacDonald of Moncton, New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Dawn Ann (Matchett) MacDonald; sister, Edith Surrette (Pete); and brother, Kenny.
