William "Bill" Hilchey Obituary
In Loving Memory of William “Bill” Hilchey
January 27, 1937 – October 11, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of William “Bill” Carl Hilchey announce his passing at Percy’s Place on October 11, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, on January 27, 1937, he was the son of the late Carl and Mercedes Hilchey. Bill lived a full and joyful life rooted in faith, family and community.
Bill is survived by the love of his life, Lenora, his devoted wife of 68 years; his children: Kevin (Debbie), Karen, Richard (Bev) and Stephen (Roseanna); 11 cherished grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and delight.
Bill was predeceased by his parents Carl and Mercedes Hilchey, his sisters: Joan Hilchey and Betty Wilson and infant brother, Robert Hilchey.
Bill worked with New Brunswick Power for 34 years, where he was respected for his dedication and steady hand. In his younger years, he served proudly as a member of the North Shore Regiment, exemplifying the sense of duty and service that guided his life.
A man of deep faith, Bill was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church and a steadfast presence in his community. He found joy in the simple things-tending his garden, playing the horn, and sharing laughter with family and friends. He loved to read and was known for his gentle humour, quick wit, and warm, welcoming spirit that made everyone feel at home in his company. Bill also coached minor hockey and was a Sunday School Teacher earlier in his life.
Above all, Bill was a family man whose greatest happiness came from time spent with those he loved. His kindness, faith, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
At Bill’s request there was no visitation. A funeral service was held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 188 Wellington St., Miramichi, New Brunswick on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11 AM with The Reverend Charlene Maguire MacKnight officiating. Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Lois McKinnon and St. Andrew's United Church Choir and the hymns were "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder", "Christ The Lord Is Risen Today", "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah" and the recessional hymn was "God Be With You Till We Meet Again". The lighting of the memory candle was by granddaughters: Briege and Elise Doiron. The scripture readings was read by daughter-in-law, Roseanna Hilchey and niece, Linda Wilson and the eulogy was presented by son, Kevin Hilchey and niece, Debbie Simpson. A reception followed the service in the church basement. Honorary pallbearers were Jeanne Breau, George Springer, Craig Simpson, Bob Gregan, Sandy Hilchey, Billy Hay, Reg Carroll, Flavien Daigle, Cecil Stymiest, Billy Skidd, John Simpson, Derrick Carnahan, Larry Cook, Jack Daley and Wayne MacDonald. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Riverside Cemetery, St. Andrew’s United Church or Percy’s Place would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492. Additionally, messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca
