William “Billy” Roland Dickson
1947-2022
William “Billy” Roland Dickson of Miramichi, NB, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the age of 74.
Born in Miramichi, NB, on August 4, 1947, he was the son of both the late Benjamin and Eileen (Power) Dickson.
As a young man, Billy joined the Militia and served with the North Shore Regiment of New Brunswick for three years before starting his career in law enforcement.
Billy was hired in May 1972 as an Auxiliary Police Constable with the Chatham Police Department and later served as a Corporal with the Miramichi Police Force, retiring in 2008 after 36 years of service. He was also an adherent of The Point Church-Miramichi.
Billy is survived by his two daughters: Deanna Black (Cecil) of Shamrock, PE, and Sonya Dickson (Timmy Collette) of Moncton, NB; one step-son, Craig Stevens (Geraldine) of New Minas, NS; five sisters: Lillian Ball of Niagara Falls, ON, Clara Collette of Miramichi, Violet Matthews of Miramichi, Jean Carroll of Miramichi, and Geraldine Arbeau (Campbell) of Saint John, NB; two brothers: Benny Dickson (Mildred) of Miramichi, and John Dickson (Wendy) of Miramichi; two grandchildren: Courtney Black, and Robert Stevens; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Billy is also survived by his very special friend Brenda Watling.
Besides his parents, Billy is predeceased by his former spouse, Donna Dickson; grandson, Canaan Black; brother, Robert Dickson; brothers-in-law: Roland Matthews, Stan Ball, John Collette, and Wilbur Carroll.
A public visitation occurred at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, NB, on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 2-4 PM, and 7-9 PM. A public funeral service was held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 11 AM with Pastor Kevin Matthews officiating. Music Ministry for the service was provided live by Vanessa Carvalho, and Geoff McLean. The songs were: "Where The Roses Never Fade", "Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone", and "When We All Get to Heaven". Memories were shared by Violet Matthews and Sergeant Bob Bruce. The Active Pallbearers were: Superintendent Randy Hansen, Sergeant Bob Bruce, Sergeant Ed Goodfellow, Constable Ray Doucet, Sergeant Dana Hicks, and Constable Rob Frontain. A guard of honor was formed by numerous participating Police Officers, and the procession to the cemetery was led by the Miramichi Police Force. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt Thank You to special friend Brenda Watling, “for always being there for Dad”. Thank you to Dr. Gerard Losier for his continued care of Billy over the years. Thank you to Dr. Joe Rigley and the Nurses for sitting with Billy in his final hours, and thank you to the rest of the Nurses and Staff at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, Moncton City Hospital, and George Dumont Hospital.
