Mervyn J. Godfrey


Miramichi – Mervyn Joseph Godfrey, husband of Catherine Godfrey, of Island View Drive, Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Wednesday afternoon, May 17, 2017, at the age of 82.

Born in Chatham, on March 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Hubert and Mabel (Taylor) Godfrey.  He was a member of St. James United Church; a church Elder and a member of the St. James Cemetery Committee.  He was a crane operator, employed in the pulp and paper industry.

He is survived by his wife, the former Catherine Q. MacDonald; one son, Kevin Godfrey (Darlene), of Fredericton; one brother, Lloyd Godfrey (Betty), of Napan; one grandson, Josh Godfrey; one special cousin, Catherine Zimmer, of California; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one grandson, Jamie Godfrey.

Visitation was at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Sunday, May 21st.  Funeral service was held from Adams Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight.  The music for the service was provided by Mr. William Sweezey and St. Andrews United Church Choir and the hymns were “In the Garden”, “Here I Am, Lord” with the recessional hymn being “The Old Rugged Cross”.  The readings were done by Darlene Levesque and Kevin Godfrey.  A poem was read by Joshua Bone.

Pallbearers were Bliss MacDonald, Dale MacDonald, Troy Godfrey, Blair MacDonald, David Godfrey and Ambrose MacDonald.  Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi.
