Elsie C. McGraw

1931 – 2018

Black River Bridge – Elsie Catherine (Chapman) McGraw, widow of the late Allison McGraw of Black River Bridge, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Saturday evening March 31, 2018 at the age of 86.

Born in Chatham, on September 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William and Mildred (Jenkins) Chapman.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed the Victoria Knitting Club.  She attended St. Stephen’s United Church when she was able.

She is survived by her daughter Catherine Arseneault (Frank) of Miramichi; three sons George McGraw of Black River Bridge, Kevin McGraw of Fredericton and Stephen McGraw (Kelly) of Miramichi; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; four sisters Dorothy Hackett and Audrey Hackett (Jim) all of Hamilton, ON, Florence Savoy of Black River Bridge and Marva Gulliver (Wayne) of Gardner’s Point; three brothers Robert Chapman of Miramichi, Willis Chapman of Ontario and Carmen Chapman of Black River Bridge.  She was predeceased by her parents; husband Allison McGraw; daughter Joan; two sisters Hilda and infant sister Joyce; brother Aldon.

Visitation was at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi on Tuesday, April 3rd.  Funeral service was held from St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018 at 2 pm with David Allan B.A. M.Div. officiating.  Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Barb Somers and the Loggieville – Black River Pastoral Charge Choir and the hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “In the Bulb There Is a Flower”.  The recessional hymn was “We Shall Go Out With Hope of Resurrection”.  The lighting of the memory candle was done by Jennika McGraw, Joli McGraw and Tanya Rice.  The scriptures were read by Christina Arseneault and Michelle Washington and a poem “Do not stand at my grave and weep” was offered by Renee Shaddick.  The eulogy was given by Jennessa MacWilliam.

Honorary pallbearers were John Guy and Rick Arseneault, Bob and Carmen Chapman, Wayne Gulliver, Jim Hunter, Robert MacDiarmid, Winfield Murdock, Johnny Russell and Hugh Williston.  Active pallbearers were Jeremy, Randy, Shawn, Cory and Jeff Arseneault and Todd Rice.  Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery later in the spring.

Thoughts and prayers winging out, so very sorry to hear of this, thinking of you all at this difficult time. She loved to fish, made a great blueberry cake, loved her jigsaw puzzles and good books.... She will be remembered and missed....
